Ashoka

Emperor Asoka is known as Piyadasi (in Pali) or Priyadarshi (in Sanskrit) meaning “He who regards everyone with affection". All his inscriptions have the imperial touch and show compassionate loving. He addressed his people as his "children".

ABOUT US

Target Group

The area of operation of FHSM has a good outreach of marginalized communities, minorities, sexual minorities, nomadic tribal, tribal and dalit population who speak Tamil, Telugu and tribal dialects. Since these communities are deprived of basic rights which are fundamental, FHSM has dedicated all projects for the beneficiaries representing these vulnerable sections. The regional level disparity, poverty in policy, and ineffective implementation has led these vulnerable sections suffer major catastrophe in their social and economic realm.

The dalit and tribal communities have by and large relied on agriculture and forest produce. Most of the area are rain-fed and lacks basic infrastructure. Most of them are working as daily wage workers, laborers, and are prone to migratory jobs. The unemployment and under employment in Tamil Nadu are very high among dalits. The social system in the blocks is structured on the basis of caste and classes. Social and economic inequality is deep-rooted in these blocks. Political power, Economic power and Social power are concentrated in the hands of dominant castes. Nearly 80% of the landless dalits depend on the wages they earn from agriculture activities. However, lack of training, and credit opportunities have blocked their progress economically, and women in particular are more vulnerable due to lack of education and awareness. There rights on livelihood and social dignity are highly ignored. Hence, FHSM has decided and dedicated the whole activities for these deprived communities and disadvantaged sections of the society. FHSM has been working in the project areas for the last 5 years under various interventions to its credits.
